Last week I met up with friend and artist Michele Maule, to finish a trade we started a while back. She painted the oil painting on wood panel on the left, and I made the rusted steel on the right. We draw inspiration from similar places for our art, so it was fitting that we trade a piece of the same water tower.

Michele is very talented artist. I've always admired her ability to capture feeling and mood in her images. Check out www.etsy.com/shop/michelemaule to see her available work.

BADLANDS

I have a solo gallery show coming up in about a week in Portland. The show includes 10 new etched steel pieces, and for the first time I'm showing paintings. I've been painting with water color for a few years now. The water color pieces should be an interesting contrast to the hard steel pieces they will hang next to.

Please join me for the opening reception on Thursday July, 7th at -
The Darras Gallery, 625 NW Everett #110, in Portland.

Last Thursday at Flight 64

I have 4 new intaglio prints, and a few older ones, on display at Flight 64 this Thursday, June 30th. The show is with Roger Peet, and starts around 5pm. Flight 64 is located down the alley between 29th and 30th, on the South side of NE Alberta St., in Portland.

FECALFACE.COM INTERVIEW

Thanks to fecalface.com for posting a mini interview with me!! FF has been my favorite art website for a while, so its an honor to see my art mixed with the rest of the amazing work they spotlight.

Below are a couple of the the Q's and A's, go read the rest of the
interview now!

Location? Age? Education? Website?

Portland, Oregon. 32. Bachelor of Science in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and a Minor in Graphic Design from Portland State University. www.garrettpriceart.com

How would you describe your work to someone?

Someone once described my work as cockroach art, meaning it looks like it has survived nuclear exposure. I would describe it as my photography and designs acid etched, or rusted, into the surface of steel plates. The framed steel hangs on the wall like a painting. My imagery is often desolate landscapes, with visual traces of human existence. The steel backgrounds, with their natural imperfections, add texture and atmosphere, as well as a direct physical and conceptual connection to the imagery.

Influences?

The up and down cycles of my emotions. Industrial architecture, nature and history.

Cheese burgers or tofu burgers?

I'm more of a bean and rice burrito guy, honestly.

I have a new piece in a Chroma group show for the month of March at the Art Institute of Portland. The opening reception is this Thursday, the 3rd, starting at 6pm. The show will be up all month.

Here are a few of the designs I made while working on my piece for the show. The theme of the show is the blurred lines between art and architecture.Come out to the show to see which design made the cut.

Website update!

The update of garrettpriceart.com is finished! We added over 40 new images to the galleries. Most of this work is new, but a few older pieces were added as well. Check out the new store too!

As for the art making... I've been working lately on a few different commission projects, I moved my studio, and this week marked the beginning of the second year of the Lot Whitcomb drawing club. The drawing club is a group of really cool 6th graders that I hang out with once a week. We work on basic drawing skills while talking dragons and zombies, and having the endless discussion about what images would be considered school appropriate. We don't draw weapons, violence, or boobs ;)

As for upcoming shows... I will have a piece in the Cascade Aids Project auction and a new etching in an upcoming group show. I have also been talking to a local gallery about a solo show this summer. I will announce these shows as they are confirmed.
